Norwegian Wild Fish launches a new tool to help fishermen follow up on the Transparency Act and deliver documentation to fish buyers
In light of the Transparency Act's requirement to promote respect for fundamental human rights and decent working conditions, the fish sales associations have launched a new self-declaration. This initiative is designed to make the flow of information between fishermen and fish buyers simpler and more transparent. The work on the declaration and the practical solution has been carried out in collaboration between the sales associations, the Norwegian Fishermen's Association and Seafood Norway.
This includes requirements to conduct due diligence assessments, account for these and respond to information requests. The law also means that customers need more detailed information from those they buy goods from.
Fishermen will receive an SMS and an email with a link to the self-declaration. This must be completed and signed using Catch Sign. Once the declaration has been completed and signed, it will be available on the fish sales associations' websites (Extranet) for potential customers for one year.
It must then be updated and signed again, if necessary.
Fishermen ONLY need to fill out one form even if they deliver to multiple buyers and through multiple sales teams.
The goal is to make this easy for fishermen – and easy for buyers.
